The team of the department of anaesthesia in basel provides the following services in an university hospital setting:

• About 16'500 anaesthesia's yearly for all major medical specialities (neuro, cardiac, vascular, general, pediatric, gyn.& obst. , pain, ...)
• Surgical ICU (cardiac, neuro, general) with > 1400 pat/year
• Intermediate care unit with > 2000 pat/year
• Emergency medical service (aeromedical and ground ALS)

• Training program for 40 residents (broad clinical education, sophisticated simulator training[*].
• International postgraduate courses.[*]
• ICU and anaesthesia nursing school.

• malignant hyperthermia (clinical and cell culture facilities)
• psychology (team performance, selection, simulators in anaesthesia)
• transoesphageal echocardiography (clinical and stress focuses)
• isolated nerve lab (n. vagus model)
• resuscitation (small animal resuscitation model)
